Honestly, because it's too hard to know where your money goes when you shop. Most people have a vague sense that some brands are dodgy but the information is buried, confusing, or just exhausting to look up while you're standing in a supermarket aisle.
unPACKED is an education tool. The idea isn't to make you feel guilty about your shopping — it's to make the information available after you've already shopped, gradually building a clearer picture of which companies your household supports.
We're not telling you what to buy or not buy. We're just unpacking what's already in your trolley.
Yes, unPACKED is free to use. There are no ads, no subscriptions, and no data sold to third parties. We're in early development and if that changes, we'll be upfront about it.
Email us at help@getunpacked.app with the brand name and, if you have it, a source for the concern: a news article, report, or boycott list entry.
We review all submissions and will add the brand to the database if we can verify the concern with a credible source. We're a small operation so it may take a few days, but we will get back to you.
Yes — that's exactly what preferences are for. When you first sign up, you set how much each issue matters to you using a simple scale: doesn't matter, matters a little, or matters a lot.
Your settings shape how flags appear in your results. Issues you care about show up prominently; ones you're less bothered by show up softly or not at all. You can update your preferences at any time from your account page.
Open your scan history and find the receipt you want to remove. Tap to open it, then tap the delete button on the receipt itself. This removes the scan and all associated items from your history permanently.
Go to the account page (the person icon in the bottom navigation), scroll to the bottom, and tap "delete account". You'll be asked to confirm by typing DELETE.
This permanently removes your account and all your scan history. It cannot be undone.
A few reasons this might happen:
- The receipt was blurry, crumpled, or poorly lit
- The brand name was printed in an unusual format
- It's a very small or regional brand we haven't indexed yet
- It's a supermarket own-brand item (we skip these as they're not independently flaggable)
If a specific brand consistently goes unrecognised, email us and we'll look into it.
Yes. Your receipt data is stored securely and is only used to provide the service to you. We don't sell your data, run ads, or share your shopping history with anyone.
We've deliberately chosen European hosting providers (Hetzner, Supabase) to keep your data in the EU. Full details are in our privacy policy.
